Mixing in Dried Fruit and Nuts

March 12th, 2012 | Posted by KristenM in Candy - (0 Comments)

dried fruit and nutsCandy gifts are oh-so delicious and people always enjoying receiving them. But for some of us, as much as we love looking into a basket of chocolate, there is the little part of us that worries about our health and weight. Suddenly the gift seems like it might be a bit more like a tempter than a gift because it takes some willpower to stop ourselves from eating it all in one sitting. Well, I may not be able to teach you self-restraint, but you can tone down all the sweets by adding in some dried fruit into the mixture.

Dried fruit offers a nice sweetness without packing on any calories. And nuts can easily balance out the sweets with a little bit of salty. All together, they make a good mix. Is it any wonder why people love munching on some trail mix that contains all three? Adding dried fruit and nuts can not only add to the overall flavor and delectabilty  of the candy gifts, but it can set some people at ease who might be worried about an overwhelming presence of candy and chocolate.

Mix and match candy, fruits, and nuts at TheCandyStoreOnline.com. Choose from chocolate covered pretzels to mango and kiwi to almonds and peanuts.

Candy for Every Occasion

February 27th, 2012 | Posted by KristinG in Candy - (0 Comments)

There has never been an occasion at which candy wasn’t an appropriate gift. All major holidays are fine times to give out candy gifts. Think about it; birthdays, religious celebrations, anniversaries, and even things like baby showers are perfect reasons to pick up some chocolate covered pretzels to show the people in our lives how much we care.

For those who are unable to eat chocolate and other sweets, there is always other types of candy to give out. Dried fruits and nuts are a delectable and appropriate gift for those who are diabetic, cannot have sweets, or are on a diet. These types of gifts are just as tasty as their sugary counterparts and healthier for the recipient.

There are many times a year where stores are stocked with candy. As a matter of fact, I cannot think of a time of year where there isn’t a holiday coming up that celebrates with specialized candy.

If you’re heading to any kind of gathering or celebration and feel the need to bring a gift, just keep in mind that it is always appropriate to bring candy with you for the host or hostess of a party or just to say hi and that you care. Candy is a great “anytime” gift!

Awesome and Weird Chocolate Gifts

February 20th, 2012 | Posted by KristinG in Candy - (0 Comments)

When I was in college, I came up with a theory that there was no food on earth that couldn’t be improved by the addition of either cheese or chocolate. Can you think of any? The closest I ever came to an exception was seafood but that goes into Alfredo sauce enough for me to know that cheese CAN make shrimp and lobster better. What I didn’t know was that seafood can also be improved by chocolate. In Japan, chocolate covered squid is a delicacy!

So what on earth can’t be improved by chocoalte? You’ve got chocolate covered pretzels, chocolate covered gummy bears, even chocolate covered oreos! Chocolate covering improves pretty much everything, but have you ever seen some of the weirdest of the chocolate covered candy gifts?

In some boutique candy stores you can purchase chocolate covered grasshoppers and chocolate covered caramel dipped ants. One of the more common candy bits is now a part of the sweet and savory family. Candied bacon can be dipped in chocolate for a delicious treat. The same goes for jerky. You can dip chili peppers into chocolate and dress them up like chocolate covered strawberries. The combination of sweet and spicy dates back to the Mayans of Central America.

What are your favorite chocolate covered combinations?

Purim Gift Baskets

February 13th, 2012 | Posted by KristinG in Candy - (0 Comments)

Purim gift baskets may seem like just a tasty treat, but their history goes back thousands of years. This joyous Jewish holiday celebrates the escape from a corrupt leader in the Persian empire. The story is told in the book of Esther and it dictates traditions that are still followed in modern times.

One of the edicts of Esther is that every member of the community, regardless of their financial status, must give some type of charity. This can be monetary or it can be in the form of enough food for a meal.

Another of the traditions of the holiday is that you must give sustenance or provisions to friends and family members. This is where the Purim gift baskets come into play. These baskets, usually full of dried fruit and nuts, are given to loved ones as a token of affection and joy. In addition to the charity and basket giving, there is a tradition of wearing masks and costumes for reveling and general merriment.

After all of the charity, basket giving, masks, and revels, there is a festive meal that is taken with lots of wine and in the presence of loved ones and friends. Purim has a very rich history.

Housewarming Candy Gifts

Moving is hard work. Seriously, the sweat, stress, and effort is enormous! You have no idea where your stuff is and if you packed your toothbrush in the right spot or not. It’s very difficult! It can be made even worse when you realize when you’re exhausted and taking a break that you have nothing to snack on.

I have new neighbors. Very new. In fact, they’re still not fully unpacked from their move. When I saw that I was going to get neighbors in the apartment across the hall I immediately thought about getting them a housewarming present. I finally settled on candy gifts.

By getting them something to snack on, I was not only giving them a warm welcome to the building and extending the hand of friendship, but I was also giving them the gift of energy, rejuvenation, and snacking! I watched as their eyes lit up when I brought over the huge platter of dried fruits and nuts. It was a good feeling knowing that while they were searching for their tv remote or trying to figure out where they put their socks, they would be able to eat something tasty!

If you’re worried about nut allergies or something of the sort, try a simple tray of chocolate covered pretzels!

Get Well Soon!

It’s that time of year again. The time of year when someone in the office sneezes and all of a sudden a full-on epidemic of the cold and the flu run rampant through the cubicles. That little cold bug can knock an entire department on its rear for days! But you know what always makes someone feel better even in the throes of sneezing, coughing, and blowing your nose? Candy gifts.

Honestly, when has candy ever failed to make you feel better? There are also health benefits to eating chocolate. Seriously. There have been recent studies that show that chocolate (which is made from plants) contains antioxidants that help protect and heal your body. Dark chocolate can even lower blood pressure and lower the bad kinds of cholesterol in your body. Instead of an apple a day, a small bar of dark chocolate a day keeps the doctor away!

So go ahead, curl up on the couch, grab your favorite comfortable blanket, make some soup, and eat as many chocolate covered pretzels as your poor sniffly nose can handle! Maybe the person who started this whole cold spreading should buy the office a big basket full of them. That sounds fair, doesn’t it? Feel better soon!

Always a Kid in a Candy Store

There are some things that never change. The cynics in the audience will claim that “death and taxes” are the only things that are sure things in life. But I posit that perhaps another thing that will never change is the excitement that one always gets when entering a colorful, fragrant candy store.

It’s a Willy Wonka dream come true! Everyone watched that movie or read that book and dreamed that there was a real place where chocolate covered pretzels grew on trees and gumdrops actually rained from the sky. Of course, Hollywood magic made it happen on the big screen, but the magic of candy is very real for those at The Candy Store. They’ll be happy to make you a customized platter or candy gifts tailored just to your tastes! If you don’t like gummy bears, they won’t put any in; if you love gummy bears, they’ll be sure to add more! Baskets and trays of candies, bags of candy for special occasions and events, doesn’t that sound like the candy fantasy of your dreams?

The Candy Store has been around since 2003 and prides itself on their amazing customer service and do everything they possibly can to make your experience amazing and exciting just like when you first walked into a candy store!
